Maria Stansfield and Gus Muncaster have worked together for many years. In 2014, Maria and Gus merged their individual Sports Injury Clinics together to allow our Clients to experience the exceptional service that they deserve, provide inter-clinic learning and development of resources.
Maria founded her own Sports Injury Clinic "Stansfield Sports Injury Clinic" in 2012. Maria studied at Edge Hill University and gained a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Sports And Exercise Science with a strong Biomechanics aspect, she then went on to complete her Master of Science degree in Sports Therapy at the University of Central Lancashire. Maria is an accredited and insured member of the Society of Sports Therapists and has recently become a Chartered Scientist which is a highly regarded and respected accreditation from the Science Council.
Maria has a wide array of experience in elite sport including 7 years with Wigan Warriors Rugby League First Team, with 3 years as a Consultant Therapist to the First Team. Maria also worked with England Rugby League First Team and Knights for several years. During her time with Wigan Warriors she contributed towards their success of winning the Super League Grand Final twice, Challenge Cup twice and the World Club Championship.
Additionally to her experience in Rugby League, Maria has worked for most of her career with Runners of all abilities including Olympic and European athletes, with a speciality in Marathon and Ultra event runners and Triathletes. Maria has also worked for many years with Boxers of different levels from amateur to professional. Maria also has a keen interest in Cycling and treats former professional Cyclist Bex Rimmington and newly professional Theo Hartley. Maria has also more recently worked with Manchester City Women’s Football Club.
With Maria’s background in Biomechanics and additional training, she is also able to custom make orthotics. Maria also has a wide array of experience in post- surgery conditions and rehabilitation following trauma.
Gus studied his degree in Sports Therapy and graduated from The University of Central Lancashire with a BSc (Hons), he is fully insured under the Society of Sports Therapist and a member of the MSST.
Gus founded "Performa Therapy" in 2009, and has gone on to develop the clinic ever since. Gus worked as Head Therapist at Bamber Bridge Football Club for over 6 years. Gus continues to work with Blackburn Hawks Ice Hockey Team and has also worked with Preston North End academy, Manchester City FC women, England Rugby League, Wigan Warriors and Sydney Roosters RFL Team whilst they were in the UK for the World Club Challenge.
Gus also works as a Consultant to our sister clinic in Bolton, Stansfield Sports Injury Clinic (SSIC.
Gus is very interested in all things musculoskeletal, particularly the knee - the injuries and myths around it, shoulder - top to bottom, back to front, fascia - from its anatomy to its function and pain - from understanding it to helping people improve their tolerance to it through education and exercise i.e. movement!
